Perhaps that’s the date of release for Windows Phone 7.8 for current-generation Lumia smartphones. As Microsoft revealed late last month that current generation hardware running on Windows Phone 7 won’t be upgradeable to Windows Phone 8, the company is offering a middle ground in providing the same Windows phone 8 skin for Windows Phone 7 devices. This would give Windows Phone 7.8 a similar aesthetic on the OS level, but without all the benefits internally of Windows Phone 8, like sharing the same kernel code with Windows 8, NFC support, or the support for higher resolution screens and multi-core CPUs.
In the past, speculations about a Nokia Lumia smartphone with Windows Phone 8 is said to be amazing with an experience that exceeds today’s Windows Phone 7.
